ANSR-11 Flight Summary

Launch 9 Mar 2003, 1710 UTC, (10:10 AM MST)

Payloads Payload Computer, Experimental - Payload "E", and Micro Beacon II

Notes Just after burst at 103,446' contact was lost with the Micro Beacon and Experimental - Payload "E".  As we ascended through 90,000' the wind picked up and generated moderate to severe turbulence as registered by the experimental payload.  It appears the payloads probably were gyrating and swinging around.  The cross band repeater downlink experienced severe fading from my location and the Eb/No (that is Signal to Noise ratio on a data link), was down 15-20 dB.  Immediately after burst, slack in the lines was probably taken out rather abruptly and caused the string to fail.  The energy from the stretching string was released and caused the experimental package to hit the Micro Beacon.  All contact was lost with the experimental package and Micro Beacon.  I've looked at several log files and don't see a single packet from either package.  I also sent an interrogation signal to the experimental payload, but did not hear back.
