Payload Performance

The following is the performance of each payload package.

Micro Beacon Signal weak for a portion of the flight, otherwise operation nominal.

ATV  - Operation nominal.

Payload ComputerOperation nominal.  Received many contacts and good signal quality reports.  Bad connector on internal power supply connection caused processor reset during flight.

Cut DownNot in payload train.  Defective relay prevented usage.

Lessons Learned

Weak signal on Micro Beacon.  Solution – Most likely cause was a repaired antenna connector that should have been replaced.

Payload computer reset during flight caused by defective power supply connection.  Solution – Replace connector.

Ground station unable to receive ATV signal.  Other stations did report signal.  Solution – Additional preflight testing to verify operation of ground station.

Payload computer and Micro Beacon Velcro covers came loose on rough landing.  Solution – Utilize additional Velcro and safety wire/straps.

Some TNC systems unable to receive APRS packets from Micro Beacon.  Solution – Possible problem with AX.25 protocol or timing.  Will test interoperability with additional hardware.
