Payload Performance

The following is the performance of each payload package.

Micro Beacon Intermittent transmitter caused distortion in APRS signal and loss of tracking.

ATV  - Operation nominal.  Excellent reception and video recording obtained at ground station.

Payload ComputerOperation nominal.  Received a number of contacts including a 302 mile contact from Wayne, KD5MQE in Deming, NM.

Cut DownBroken wire prevented operation.

Lessons Learned

Micro Beacon's intermittent transmitter caused distortion in APRS signal and loss of tracking.  Solution – Replace Alinco radio with custom UHF transmitter capable of -55° C to ° C operation.

Numerous broken cable between Payload Computer and ATV and cut down packages.  Solution – Replace with wireless RF link or infra red link.
